Basic Skin Types

Normal Skin

Normal skin has a smooth appearance with an overall healthy glow
Skin contains a natural balance of oil and moisture
Pores are very small and less visible compared to the other skin types
Less prone to blemishes and acne.

Routine cleansing and moisturizing daily will help to keep skin keep skin healthy and prevent dryness.

Dry Skin

Dry skin produces less oil and moisture than the other skin types
Skin has a tendency to dry and flake easily
Dry skin is more prone to fine lines and wrinkles
Sensitive to cold weather and harsh winds

Routine cleansing followed by a rich nourishing moisturizer will help to keep skin protected and combat dryness. It is best to avoid toners that contain alchohol as it has a tendency to dry out the skin.

Oily Skin

Unlike the other skin types, oily skin produces an excess of moisture
Skin has a shiny appearance throughout the T-zone (forehead, nose & chin)
Pores are larger and skin is more prone to acne, blemishes, & pimples

To help prevent clogged pores and break-outs skin must be cleansed regularly. Using products specially formulated for oily skin can assist in eliminating excess oil and shine.

Combination

Normal/Oily combination skin has a shiny appearance throughout the T-zone, and normal skin throughout the rest of the face.
Normal/Dry combination skin has the appearance of normal skin, with dry areas on other parts of the face.

Extra care must be taken for balance when cleansing & moisturizing combination skin. For example less moisture will be used on the oily regions, while additional moisture should be applied to dry areas. Fortunately there are a wide array cleansers and moisturizes formulated for combnation skin to assist in keeping skin looking healthy.

Sensitive Skin

Sensitive skin is more prone to a reaction form cosmetics and skin care products
Easily affected by cold weather conditions & winds
Easily irritated and can become red and itchy.

Hypo-allergenic cleansers are available for this skin type, as well as fragrance free moisturizers. In some cases it is neccessary to contact a dermatologist for extreme conditions. As with any skin type, if products cause irritation to skin discontinue use, and consult a dematologist before using new products.
